Providence College - Retaining Walls
Given the sloped condition of much of the Providence College campus and the implementation of significant facility improvements, structural retaining walls are occasionally required to compensate for changes in topographic relief and to achieve project objectives. Caputo and Wick Ltd. has designed a number of reinforced concrete retaining walls for the College. Shown above is a multi-sided retaining wall that enabled construction of a regulation synthetic-surface running track at Hendricken Field. The wall is located atop a steep embankment at the western end of the athletic field, adjacent to River Road. The images at lower left reflect construction of a series of retaining walls at Anderson Stadium, and the completed walls are shown at lower right. For a vehicular ramp to the parking garage, an inside wall was required to retain a steep earthen embankment, and an outside wall formed the ramp and provided the required elevation to the second level of the parking garage.
